A Gordon Russell 'Stow' oak double wardrobe designed by Gordon Russell, No. 447, in 1927,enclosed by a pair of panel doors, over a base drawer (with lap and through dovetails and solid base), bog oak faceted octagonal knob handles, on short block legs. Fielded panelled form and pegged construction


Gordon Russell—One of the most important names in British design and a leading maker of arts and crafts furniture. His early furniture was hand-made in small numbers to a very high standard. He was influential in virtually every aspect of British design in the 20th century

An early item nicely made from top quality quarter sawn oak and in excellent condition with good deep colour. The rail is transverse, meaning that modern coat hangers can be used. This is a top class handmade item produced by an individual craftsman, not one of the later mass produced designs
